Situated in an existing Pump House in Southwark this new nursery school brigs life back into an otherwise empty building. This nursery was designed to be inhabited quickly allowing the local community to inhabit a space that was much needed.

A new room within a room was built using full-size sheet materials to both reduce waste, but also allow the space to be removed and reused after future development of the space. The room is set in from the existing walls to allow for construction to take place around the inhabited nursery space.

A simple timber structure was built using the maximum single spans possible to create a light and simple construction.

Circular roof lights were cut into the ceiling deck and infilled with plastic sheeting to allow nature light into the room from the existing windows
